The Apprenticeship Specialist manages all elements related to apprenticeships and work-based learning programs (e.g., internships, co-ops, job shadows, etc.) within the Technical Careers Division. The Specialist is a primary contact with business and industry, establishes professional relationships and partnerships, and maintains communication with industry to promote, develop, and support Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs) and other work-based learning opportunities for students. Specifically, these opportunities and partnerships allow students to apply knowledge and skills gained through education while serving industry and employer needs. The position facilitates the recruitment of potential student apprentices and coordinates students’ experiences before, during and after their apprenticeship work, or other work-based learning experience to help ensure success and overcome industry skill-gaps. This position helps prepare the program budget and monitor expenditures; provide grant management oversight in relation to apprenticeships, and maintain liaisons with external agencies and advisory committees regarding issues of program development and service delivery. They will work primarily with employers, Capital Area Michigan Works, the State of Michigan and the United States Department of Labor (USDOL) to develop and execute Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs). The Specialist is responsible for the day to day operation and oversight of all processes, data collection
and performance reports related to the RAPs. The Specialist will serve as a liaison to employers with program coordination and processes within instruction and technical support for Technical Careers programs. The Specialist will seek and develop new employer partnerships while strengthening existing workforce partnerships. Must demonstrate a
commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

LCC policy requires all LCC employees to be residents of the State of Michigan and to perform all work (with limited exceptions) within the State of Michigan.

Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience (Associate's Degree and two (2) years of related experience).

Customer service experience.

Demonstrated experience establishing business or community partnerships, or similar.

Demonstrated experience organizing and managing data.

Demonstrated experience giving public presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated background in, and knowledge of, a technical careers area of study

Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and evaluating multi-faceted projects.

Familiarity with internship and apprenticeship programs in technical education.

Grant management experience.

2 years’ experience working with apprenticeship standards.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate with diverse constituencies.

Demonstrated experience organizing events, promoting opportunities, or giving public presentations.
