The Full-Time Assistant Professor of Electrical Utility/Lineworker Technology is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and leadership within the Electrical Technology Program at Lansing Community College’s Great Lakes Center for Utility Training. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and effective instruction in both classroom and lab settings, focusing on climbing, construction, and maintenance of electrical lines, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to safety and student success. Participate in program/department meetings and divisional/college-wide committees with a focus on continual improvement of programs and learning outcomes. Participate in curriculum and course development, course and program coordination, tutoring and advising students, mentoring and reviewing peers, and College initiatives. Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to accommodate different learning styles and promote student engagement. Must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the instruction of both Electrical Linework and Electrical Technology courses in a majority of the following areas:
• Provide instruction in electrical utility linework, including the construction, maintenance, and operation of electrical distribution systems.
• Demonstrate and teach safe and effective climbing techniques on wooden utility poles up to 40 feet, ensuring strict adherence to all safety standards.
• Maintain current knowledge and application of industry regulations such as OSHA, NESC, and other applicable standards.
• Ensure that lab and classroom spaces are safe, operational, and conducive to effective learning.
• Be willing to teach across various courses within the Electrical Technology program as assigned.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 2 years minimum experience in the field; OR Associate’s Degree in a related field and 5 years minimum experience in the field; OR Journey or Master's license (completion of an apprenticeship) and 5 years minimum experience in the field; OR Certificate in a related field and 6 years minimum experience in the field; OR HS diploma/GED and 7 years minimum experience in the field

Preferred Qualifications:

Journey worker qualified through an apprenticeship

CDL – A License

5 years’ experience as a licensed electrician.

5 years’ working in the machine control field.

5 years’ experience implementing or maintaining programmable controls.

State of Michigan Mechanical Contractor’s License
