Job Summary:

The Associate Controller serves as leadership in the accounting department , which includes the accounting and accounts payable sections and is responsible for managing daily operations and supervising staff. This position manages the transactional postings in the College ERP systems and verifies that all systems (Banner payroll, student, finance & financial aid, Concur, Touchnet) are in balance daily to ensure accurate data is reported. The Associate Controller oversees the College’s daily cash-flow, which includes monitoring all bank balances, including deposits and disbursements. With the CFO and Controller, this position is a Board approved authorized representative and signer for the College and assists with decisions on bank and investment accounts. The Associate Controller reviews general ledger balances daily and approves staff journal entries.
The Associate Controller manages and actively participates in the monthly close process which includes extensive data analysis, account reconciliations, and month end reporting. This position has an active role in the annual financial audits, manages monthly and annual federal and state reporting for 1099s, SUW, and unclaimed property. This position also oversees and manages the recording of fixed asset information. With the Accounts Payable Manager, provide oversight of travel and expense reporting for college employees to ensure allowable reimbursement with college policies, and State and Federal requirements. This position manages all non-student accounts receivables, including the correct and accurate reporting of State Appropriations and Property Taxes, which make up over 60% of the revenue stream to the College. The Associate Controller develops and maintains the department budget, as well as, maintains all College financial records, procedures for accurate and proper posting as required by GAAP, and is responsible for continuous improvement. This position serves as a back-up to the Controller.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

LCC policy requires all LCC employees to be residents of the State of Michigan and to perform all work (with limited exceptions) within the State of Michigan.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Accounting or related business field.

Significant experience with financial data analysis, accounts receivable, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a similar position.

Significant experience working with integrated financial systems.

Significant experience working with Microsoft Office products.

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience in a higher education, government or similar setting utilizing fund accounting.

Experience with State and Federal reporting for sales, use & withholding (SUW) taxes, 1099 and unclaimed property reporting.

Experience working with Ellucian Banner and Concur ERP systems.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Experience in GASB pronouncements.
